Billionaire venture capitalist Peter Thiel has financially and ideologically supported blogger Curtis Yarvin, a primary architect of the anti-democratic "Dark Enlightenment" movement.

The Ideological Connection

• Rejection of Democracy: Yarvin (who wrote under the pseudonym Mencius Moldbug) and Thiel share a deep skepticism of democratic governance.
Yarvin argues that American democracy is obsolete and should be replaced with a corporate-style monarchy or absolute CEO-dictatorship.

• The "Cathedral": Yarvin coined the term "the Cathedral" to describe the network of modern progressive institutions, universities, and mainstream media that he and his supporters claim control public thought, which they seek to dismantle.

• Thiel's Backing: Thiel has provided financial support for Yarvin's projects and has praised Yarvin as a powerful historical thinker, helping lift Yarvin's fringe reactionary ideas into mainstream Silicon Valley and Washington political circles.

Political Influence

• The New Right: Yarvin and Thiel are key figures influencing the "New Right", a political shift that bridges tech-industry accelerationism with radical administrative overhauls.

• Shared Networks: Ideas popularized by Yarvin—such as RAGE ("Retire All Government Employees") to purge the federal civil service—have found alignment through Thiel-backed political figures, including Vice President JD Vance.

Below is one of the most important articles you are ever going to read.

I've been following Curtis Yarvin and Peter Thiel and the Dark Enlightenment Movement for a while now.

To say it is profoundly ominous, toxic and dangerous would be an understatement.

"He once referred to Adolf Hitler as “a genius,” and described Nazism as containing “a great deal of reactionary wisdom.”

He once compared Norwegian far-right terrorist Anders Breivik to Nelson Mandela.

Yarvin is a card-carrying racist.
So are his buddies Peter Thiel, Felon Musk, Alex Carp and other "Dark Enlightenment" billionaires.

Yarvin thinks “Democracy is bad.”
So does his buddies Peter Thiel, Felon Musk, Alex Carp and other billionaires.

For years he’s advocated the replacement of America’s democratic government with a CEO-like monarch with dictatorial powers.

Yarvin thinks Trump is an unusually capable leader who is constrained by the democratic system.
So does his buddies Peter Thiel, Felon Musk, Alex Carp and other billionaires.

Yarvin disparagingly refers to that system as “The Cathedral.”
So does his buddies Peter Thiel, Felon Musk, Alex Carp and other billionaires.

His writings heavily influenced JD Vance, Elon Musk and Peter Thiel, so much so that they are the principal reason Thiel pushed Trump to pick Vance as his vice president and Musk as his bureaucratic chainsaw.

His political ideas are part of the DNA of Project 2025.

He’s a significant guiding light behind the living horror that is America today.

His name is Curtis Yarvin.

Never heard of him? You’re not unusual.

In fact there’s an even chance you have heard of him but quickly forgot his name in the tidal wave of better-known bad guys of the MAGAsphere.

But Curtis Yarvin’s part in creating the America of today is probably greater than that of every other bad faith actor of MAGA Land combined.

Many of the Silicon Valley class of CEOs and their power-mad underlings think Yarvin is the next Ayn Rand.

Curtis Yarvin’s name isn’t exactly a household word.

But it should be.

His writings are to the Trump agenda what the writings of Dietrich Eckart were to the Third Reich.

Even so, Trump has never met Yarvin or read a word of his writings.

But the people around Trump have. They know him well.

People like Marc Andreessen, Michael Anton, Vance, Thiel and Musk are deeply influenced by Curtis Yarvin.

He was instrumental in pushing Musk into the Trump cult.

Curtis Yarvin plays no official role in the US government.

He skulks on the sidelines, writes a Substack called “Gray Mirror,” does the podcast circuit and writes the odd book.

And by odd, I mean very odd.

Yarvin is the creator of the anti-democratic, anti-egalitarian and reactionary philosophical and political movement known as the Dark Enlightenment.

And yet Yarvin is so obscure that Wikipedia doesn’t know his birthday or where he was born.

It’s June 25, 1973, Brooklyn New York, in case you’re wondering.

Born to a liberal and secular family, Yarvin was a progressive in his formative years.

Beginning as a child prodigy in mathematics he eventually made a small fortune in IT.

Then one day Yarvin noticed the wisdom, the advantage, the downright scalable fame to be had by catering to the far-right lunatic fringe, and he never looked back. In this he’s nothing new.

He may have noticed it on one of his LSD trips.

Yarvin cobbled together a Frankenstein’s Monster of junk politics and junk conspiracy theories with a smattering of name-dropped academic political and philosophical ideas into the hellscape of fascism he preaches today.

He appears to sincerely believe his own claptrap, and he defends it with ten-dollar words and long anecdotes about how Washington, Lincoln and FDR would agree with him.

Today, Yarvin actually says Trump hasn’t gone nearly far enough.

Maybe he thinks Trump needs a little more “reactionary wisdom.”

Like Hitler.

Anyway, I thought you might like to know the name and a little background on the man who has so thoroughly screwed up the lives of everybody on earth.

There ought to be a special place in the hell we make for people like him after this shitshow is over at last."
