Federal charge dismissed against Las Vegas bio lab suspect
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A federal charge against the man accused of running a bio laboratory inside a Las Vegas home was dismissed earlier this month.
Shortly before 6 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department SWAT team served a search warrant at a home on Sugar Springs Drive near East Washington Avenue and North Hollywood Boulevard to search for a possible “biological laboratory” inside the residence.
Inside the home, teams found evidence of “possible biological material,” including “refrigerators with vials containing unknown liquids.” The home also operated as an unlicensed short-term rental.
The property manager of the home, Ori Solomon, 55, faces a felony charge for not disposing of hazardous waste properly. He previously faced a federal charge of prohibited person in possession of a firearm, which has been dropped.
According to a document filed on May 11, the firearm charge was dismissed without prejudice “after a careful review of the evidence and additional information provided by the defendant.”
A person inside the home reported the garage was always locked, documents said. Another person also reported to investigators that the garage contained three refrigerators and that the room smelled “like a hospital – not like a clean hospital but more of a foul, stale, stagnant air smell.”
Records originally said Solomon’s immigration status prevented him from owning any firearm. Prosecutors said he was in the United States on a non-immigrant visa and “knowingly possessed” several firearms, including rifles and handguns, documents said.
An LLC tied to the home’s county records matches the name of a company that is part of an ongoing federal case in California involving a biological laboratory there, the 8 News Now Investigators first reported. In that case, a Chinese citizen, David He, faces federal charges for allegedly manufacturing and distributing misbranded medical devices, according to federal prosecutors.
As part of that investigation, local and federal officials raided the suspected biolab in Reedley, California, in Fresno County.
In early January, the FBI received a tip about lab equipment and medical waste at the Sugar Springs Drive home consistent with the bio lab in California, documents said. The tipster said Solomon contacted a house cleaner to clean the home, which is also a short-term rental.
Several days after entering the garage, two people became “deathly ill,” and they “could not get out of bed,” documents said. A tipster also told police the house contained “many dead crickets” and several people had gotten sick.
The FBI later said the garage contained materials to create test kits, compounds for Influenza vaccines, and human biological samples.
“I would describe it as a bio-storage facility where a lot of the remnants from what we know as the 2023 Reedley lab seem to have been stored in this garage for years,” FBI Special Agent in Charge Christopher Delzotto told 8 News Now. “There were samples of liquids that had been there for years that have degraded to the point, based on being at room temperature, not refrigerated, again for an extensive period of time, that are degraded to the point where we can’t test them.”
The FBI lab was able to assess some material, finding it contained vaccine compounds to fight Influenza A and Influenza B, Delzotto said. The FBI also found other chemicals common in the making of COVID and pregnancy tests – what Delzotto referred to as the parts of the test that show the positive line and membranes.
Solomon is expected to appear in court for his charge related to disposing hazardous waste on Thursday, June 4.
He was released from custody in February on a personal recognizance bond. U.S. Magistrate Judge Elayna Youchah ordered him to surrender his passport and stay within the Continental U.S. Should Solomon leave the Las Vegas area, he must inform the court.

What would happen if the FBI caught an Israeli national running an illegal bio lab in a major population center?
Well, let me tell you: this is Israeli Ori Solman, and this is his Las Vegas home; this is where authorities found over 1,000 vials of biological material.
This would include HIV, malaria, tuberculosis, and other deadly pathogens that were not being stored with containment in mind.
In fact, several people who entered the home became deathly ill and had to be hospitalized.
And now it's time to ask yourself why an Israeli national had dangerous pathogens in his home, which was also located in a major population center, and what did he intend to do with them.
We'll never know. And why is that?
Because the most serious charges were quietly dropped, and Solomon was allowed to fly back to Israel without answering for any of it. The authorities never gave the public an explanation as to what he was doing, or why he was allowed to leave.
These are the privileges afforded to you as an Israeli: you can act with impunity across the globe, and then run back home when your cover is blown.
This case is incredibly unsettling and begs the question: why was he being protected, and why aren't we?
